SUMMARY
Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the carrier status of Staphylococcus aureus strains on the nasal colonisation of patients before surgery and to analyze MRSA/MSSA strains and the detection of PVL toxin.

Patients and methods: In the period from 2014 to 2018, we captured 116 positive samples with Staphylococcus aureus isolation out of the total number of 1452 examined materials from the nasal mucosa for the detection of staphylococcal carriers.
Results: Out of a total of 116 strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from nasal swabs, detection of PVL toxin was performed prior to surgery. Of these, 48 were methicillin-resistant strains - MRSA strains. 68 strains were methicillin sensitive - MSSA strains. The prevalence of PVL in the monitored isolates was 30,2 %.
Key words: Staphylococcus aureus, PVL toxin, carrier before surgery, comparison of carrier with surrounding countries.
