SUMMARY
Over the last few years, halitosis has become an increasingly important issue for dentists and their patients. Halitosis has been recognized as one of the most common conditions for which people seek dental care. After tooth decay and periodontal disease, this is the third most common cause of the visit to dentist. Halitosis is not only a reflection of the physical condition but also has a psychological impact resulting from social isolation. With proper diagnosis, identification of the etiology and timely referrals certain steps are taken to create a successful individualized therapeutic approach for each patient seeking assistance. It is significant to highlight the necessity of an increasing knowledge of halitosis not only among dentist, but also among general practitioners in order for treatment to be effective. The aim of this review was to describe epidemiologic from halitosis, the etiological factors, diagnosis, the therapeutic approaches and possibilities in prevention related to halitosis.
