SUMMARY
Fractures of the metacarpal bones are the most common of upper limb and account for 10 % of all upper limb fractures. Depending on the site of the fracture type we define metacarpal head, shaft and base fractures. Metacarpal neck fractures comprise most frequent of all hand fractures. The fifth metacarpal is the most commonly involved. The first metacarpal fractures account for 25 % of all metacarpal fractures and are the second most commonly involved. Non-operative treatment works well in stable, closed, simple undisplaced or minimally displaced fractures. Also, non-operative treatment for dispaced fractures with an adequate closed reduction is acceptable. Better surgical outcomes for treatment of displaced and unstable fractures. Full restoration of hand function is the goal of treatment in metacarpal fractures.

Key words: metacarpal bones, indication of teratment, treatment of metacarpal bones fractures.
