Abstract
OBJECTIVES. Currently, infertility is considered a disease that has a high prevalence in reproductive age. The percentage of infertile couples has been steadily rising in recent years. Due to the rising trend of infertility worldwide more couples attempt for assisted reproduction.
METHODS. The paper describes the genetic causes of infertility and comprehensively describes the specific types of examinations and the possibility of preimplantation genetic testing in the process of in vitro fertilization.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS. Gaining a wider range of knowledge about the molecular mechanisms of gene mutations could help in the implementation of more sensitive diagnostic methods in routine practice and thus help infertile couples to targeted diagnosis, characterization of the cause of infertility and subsequent therapeutic assistance (Ref. 46).
