SUMMARY
Long term central venous approach is the introduction of a catheter into the lumen of a vein. We introduce a permanent catheter into the upper or lower hollow vein. The most commonly used access paths are: v. subclavia, v. jugularis interna, v. jugularis externa. Access path through. femoralis is associated with a higher incidence of complications (phlebothrombosis, sepsis, pulmonary embolism). When selecting a catheter, it is necessary to proceed individually, assessing the patient‘s constitution and the time the catheter will be placed in the vein.
Key words: central venous access, permanent catheter, hemodialysis, v. jugularis interna, v. subclavia.
