Summary
Background: The importance of dental hygiene for the overall human health is known. Modern equipment of the dental hygiene clinic, new technologies increase the comfort of clients during treatment in the dental hygiene clinic
Material and methods: The group consisted of 242 clients regularly treated in a dental hygiene clinic for a period two years. In the study we verified the effectiveness of the use of new dental hygiene technologies to improve oral health through measurable indicators such as incidence of tooth decay, reducing the incidence of gingivitis and periodontitis. We used a questionnaire, content analysis of documents and examination before and after the use of new dental hygiene technologies in the treatment in the dental hygiene clinic.
Results: Gingivitis of clients depends significantly on the frequency of dental hygienist visits (p < 0.001). In the course of the first treatment gingivitis was present at 60.3 %, then decreased to 22.7 %. Bleeding gums was present in a group of clients who underwent treatment in the clinic irregularly. After care and treatment by a dental hygienist, the number of patients with right periodontal pocket present was statistically significantly reduced (p < 0.001). Up to 71.1 % of clients did not have a new caries after two years of visits to the dental hygiene clinic.
Conclusion: The usage of new technologies in dental hygiene reduces the incidence of gingivitis, periodontitis and the formation of new caries. The state of oral health depends on the extent of dental hygiene, professional and individual.
