V súčasnosti prebieha na odborných fórach v nemecky hovoriacich krajinách bohatá diskusia na tému ialšieho vzdelávania cievnych chirurgov.
Jej predmetom je najmä zmena charakteru práce cievneho chirurga pod vplyvom prieniku nových techník, najmä endovaskulárnej terapie, do odboru cievna chirurgia. Zo záverov viacerých prác a prednášok popredných cievnych špecialistov je zrejmé, že endovaskulárna terapia sa stala svetovo etablovaným postupom v terapii vybraných pacientov s cievnou chorobou. Prienik endovaskulárnych techník do cievnej chirurgie je nezadržateľný a aby sa cievni chirurgovia nestali štatistami v tomto procese je potrebné dôsledne zmeniť výučbu a doškoľovanie súčasných i budúcich cievnych špecialistov.

SUMMARY
Recently, in German speaking countries, there has been a broad discussion about the education of vascular surgeons. The mean subject of this discussion is the change of character of vascular surgeons work under the influence of new techniques - especially endovascular therapy. From the conclusions of many reports and presentations of world leading vascular specialists is evident, that endovascular therapy has become a well known and accepted therapy of selected patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease. The intersection of endovascular techniques in vascular surgery is inevitable. In order not to exclude vascular surgeons out of process, it is necessary to change the education of contemporary as far as future vascular specialists.
