To be or not to be a teacher – or what is he message from Iohannes Amos Comenius?

SUMMARY

This year we commemorate 430 years from the birthday of Iohannes Amos Comenius, founder of the modern education, who is considered as „father of nations“. Comenius introduced a number of educational concepts and innovations including pictorial textbooks written in native languages instead of Latin, teaching based in gradual development from simple to more comprehensive concepts, as well as lifelong learning with a focus on logical thinking.

Iohannes Amos was an extraordinary educated man, philosopher, humanist and very good observer with pedagogic intuition therefore many of his pedagogic reform  proposals are used till today. Teacher as a mediator of informations and thus knowledge and education was considered in the past for an important person, who was respected by the society. In this work we try to answer, if this fact is still true.
Key words: Iohannes Amos Comenius, teacher, a respected person.
