SUMMARY
The authors present a therapeutic alternative to toe amputation in patients with diabetic foot syndrome and plantar ulceration in the metatarsophalangeal joint. Resection of the metatarsophalangeal joint affected by infection is considered to be a conservative surgical method that represents an alternative to amputation with the possibility of the saving of the toe. In three case reports, patient management, from the initial examination to successful healing is described.
Key words: diabetic foot syndrome, metatarsophalangeal joint, conservative surgery, peripheral arterial disease, wound healing.
