Neuropsychiatrické prejavy sclerosis multiplex (SM) sú známe pomerne dlho. Ich bližšia analýza sa začala vykonávať až v poslednej dobe. Neuropsychiatrické prejavy sa začali postupne korelovať s lokalizáciou i s rozsahom identifikovaných lézií. Je však známe, že pri SM je okrem zistiteľných ložiskových lézií aj difúznejšie zápalové postihnutie mozgu a miechy, ktorého morfologickým prejavom je skôr postupujúca atrofia mozgu. Pozorované neuropsychiatrické poruchy zasahujú tak do oblasti emócií, správania, ako aj kognície.

SUMMARY
Neuropsychiatric disturbances in multiple sclerosis (MS) appear rather frequently. Their frequency increases with the disease duration and with the degree of disability, too. They are represented by disturbances of emotions and cognitive functions. Differences of neuropsychiatric symptoms dependent upon the lesions localization and genetic predisposition, as well. They can be improved by specific pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Important is the treatment of MS as well. Neuropsychiatric investigation should be the part of the basic diagnostic tools in MS.
