Abstract
Ischaemic heart disease ranked first in 2017 as the leading cause of death and the leading cause of premature mortality in Slovakia. In this article, the authors describe the trend of mortality and years of life lost due to CHD in Slovakia between 2007 and 2018.
The observed mortality rates are described as crude rates and calculated per 100,000 inhabitants; standardized mortality rates were calculated using the European standard population. The YPLL is expressed for the age group 0 - 64 years for both men and women and for each observed diagnosis and is calculated per 100,000 population. During the 12-year follow-up, a significant reduction in IHD mortality was observed. There was an overall decrease in YPLL due to ischaemic heart disease and this trend is observed for all diagnoses studied in both men and women (Tab. 1, Fig. 1, Cart 4, Ref. 36).
