Abstract
Background. Last decades in medicine are characterized with evaluation of new biomarkers, which may be helpful in the diagnosis, treatment and risk evaluation in the clinical practice.
Material and methods. To the known and already commonly used biomarkers in the last years also GDF-15 (growth differentiation factor 15) is included, which may have an additional role to such biomarkers as are troponins, or natriuretic peptides. GDF-15 protein can be easily determined in the circulation and therefore it represents an useful biomarker in the near future.
Conclusion. Increased levels may be useful in prediction of all cause mortality among these patients. This review presents its current potential role for the common clinical practice (tab. 1, lit. 56). Text in PDF www.lekarskyobzor.sk.
