Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is a disease known for sleep fragmentation with subsequent excessive daytime sleepiness. In the long term, it is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases and an increase in overall mortality. An increase in cardiovascular risk is also associated with vitamin D deficiency, which, according to some studies, more often affects patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Whether the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and vitamin D is direct or is the result of common risk factors, is the subject of research (Fig. 1, Ref. 39).
