SUMMARY
Treatment suggestions regarding non-metastatic rectal cancer noticeably changed over the past years, which has led not only to the improvement of therapeutic measures but also to a considerably better prognosis of these patients.
In spite of frequent discussions regarding this topic, there are still ongoing differences amongst surgeons and oncologists concerning patient management. However, gradual updating of recommendations of individual associations suggests an effort to unify treatment management of rectal cancer patients.
