Acute and chronic pain in children. A modern view of the issue
Abstract
INTRODUCTION. Pain is a complex physiological process of conducting the excitation from the receptor apparatus to the structures of the central nervous system, involving biological, emotional, psychological, and social components. Acute abdominal pain in children is a diagnostic dilemma requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment. To prevent the development of chronic pain in children, adequate perioperative anesthesia should include regional analgesia techniques.
OBJECTIVE. The main aim is to improve the efficacy of anesthetic care in children with acute chronic pain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS. An accurate assessment and management of pain are one of the key skills of the physician. The paper presents modern data on pain physiology, the humoral theory of pain syndrome development, the basics of management andclinical manifestationsof acute and chronic pain.
RESULTS. There is no final solution to the issue of pain management in children due to extrapolation of adult data.
CONCLUSIONS. Some specific mechanisms of pain pathogenesis and pain management, especially in children, remain poorly understood and require further research (Ref. 38). Text in PDF www.lekarskyobzor.sk.
