SUMMARY
Introduction: The prevalence of disturbed sleep in patients with plaque psoriasis is high, but not well studied. The disease can have a direct effect on the development of disturbed sleep due to skin symptoms. Disturbed sleep negatively affects the overall health of patients and their quality of life.

Design: For purpose of the research, design of a prospective quantitative study was chosen based on an assessment scale.
Aim: The research aim was to map out the prevalence of disturbed sleep in patients with plaque psoriasis and to find out the influence of sex, age, duration of the disease and selected symptoms on disturbed sleep.
Methods: We used the Insomnia Severity Index scale to assess sleep disturbance in patients with plaque psoriasis and statistically computed the results using a chi-square test. The research sample consisted of 172 patients who were included in the sample based on systematical selection.
Results: According to the scale, the prevalence of disturbed sleep was found in more than 80% of respondents. Research found a statistically significant difference between sex (p=0.001) and disturbed sleep, between disease duration (p=0.001) and disturbed sleep.Statistically significant difference was not foundbetween age (p=0.446) and disturbed sleep. Itching of the skin (p=0.001) and pain (p=0.001) in our research sample is a factor that played a significant role and has an effect on sleep disturbance in patients with plaque psoriasis.
Conclusion: The issue of the prevalence of disturbed sleep in patients with plaque psoriasis is highly current and it is desirable to pay sufficiently attention to it. Patients should be assessed from a holistic perspective and not forget about sleep. The resulting benefit will improve the quality of life of patients.
